Mel Robbins Kicked My Fanny

Updated: Oct 18, 2023

I am not a gym person. Never really have been but especially after having two kids, my pelvic floor needs some work, and peeing myself in public isn't on my list of to-dos.

But, I do move my body 5-6 times per week. My movement of choice has been a morning walk. It's been a discipline I had to build over time to get up a bit earlier, put on my shoes, and get out the door, particularly before the heat of the Arizona day sets in.

Now, I find this 30-45 minutes something that sets my day up for success. It's MY time to think, pray, listen to a podcast, set my music, or even just have some silence in the day. Our miniature schnauzer, Murphy has learned to love this time too, and getting him out on this walk usually is enough to have him enjoy his couch naps while I work for several hours without needing a constant toy thrown.

I have a regular rotation of podcasts I scroll through and usually make my choice by the title, if I'm honest. Today's episode was from Mel Robbins and titled "If you only listen to one podcast today, make it this one." Well, then. Play.

In true Mel form, she gets right to it. Which I appreciate. No long intro or set up. Just jumps into what she wants to say and substance to back it up. I can learn a lot from her style. :)

Today was about about a kick in the fanny of "just get started." That imposter syndrome is something EVERYONE faces. Also, no ONE will care about your dreams or goals more than you, so get going before more time passes.

I had to learn that over the last few years. My dream of writing a book, starting a podcast, and switching careers wasn't going to be on anyone else's to-do list but my own. Having support from those around is helpful, but you have to go after it yourself.

After my walk, I text my amazing friend Melissa who is going through another chapter of life giving them shade. She is co-writing the book with me and we've supported each other through nearly all big moments since childhood. We've talked for a year about a podcast, where to start, who it could help, and the episodes we want to record.

We are recording in two hours. We are just starting. We won't be perfect, maybe not even good at first. We will stumble and stutter and mess up. We have no sponsors or cover art. But we've got a dream. And stories we know can help others going through time in the shade of life. So we are starting. Today.
